When We Say (Juicebox), 2017
Hand-drawn type design (pen on paper)
Based on lyrics from “When We Say (Juicebox)” by AJ Rafael
As part of my 30 Before 30 bucket list, I am attempting to create a lyric type design for every song on five different albums. The albums include:
1. “Red Roses” by AJ Rafael
2. “Stairwells” by Kina Grannis (2-CD Deluxe Edition)
3. “Humanity” by Tim Be Told
4. “Forever and Ever” by David Choi
5. “Barton Hollow” by The Civil Wars
Do you draw these by hand? Yes, but I use a couple different methods. If the caption says “hand-drawn,” I drew the design on paper first, scanned it into the computer, and then digitally colored the image. If the caption says “digitally illustrated,” I drew the design on my Wacom Bamboo tablet. Either way, all of the letters are drawn by hand.
