#9 from my 30 Before 30 list: Bake a pie or cake completely from scratch

Barefoot Contessa’s Ina Garten shared her recipe for Double-Chocolate Layer Cake on foodandwine.com. “There’s buttermilk and a cup of coffee in the batter!” I think the cake is pretty delicious, and even though I don’t own a hand mixer, the frosting was easy enough to make once the butter softened. Definitely make sure to wait until the cake is completely cooled before you start frosting it!
