There is one thing one has to have: either a soul that is cheerful by nature, or a soul made cheerful by work, love, art, and knowledge.
- Friedrich Nietzsche
After spending the first two years of college unsuccessfully convincing myself that I wanted to be an art teacher, I started down a track toward becoming a graphic designer. Now after designing for a production company in Pennsylvania and doing other freelance jobs on the side, I’ve discovered that I enjoy what I do (much to the happiness of my parents, who thought I was doomed to a life of unemployment when I switched my major from Art Education to Studio Art).
I am a self-proclaimed typography nerd. Yes, I have watched the documentary Helvetica.
Photography gives me joy. It makes me feel like I can call myself an artist. If time and money were not an issue, I would be a travel photographer. Traveling also gives me joy; going through airport security, not so much.
People fascinate me. At art museums, I like to look at people looking at art more than looking at the art itself. I would probably go back to school and study psychology if it didn’t mean homework. I watch crime dramedies – probably too much for my own good. If I weren’t a graphic designer/travel photographer/psych student, I would probably be a detective – the kind that wear long coats and don’t get shot.
Other things that cheer my soul: food, friends, conversation, laughing, music, dancing, personality tests, youtube, and Awkward Family Photos.
